LAN VS WLAN

A network consist of two or more computers that are linked in order to share all form of resources including communication.

Both LAN and WLAN networks are interrelated and share moreover conman characteristics.

LAN

  • LAN stands for Local Area Network.LAN connections include both wired and wireless communication.
  • LAN network is a collection of computers or other such devices in a particular location that are connected together by communication elements or network elements.
  • LAN is free from external attacks like interruption of signals, cyber criminals attacks etc.So it is more secure.
  • LAN is not so much popular but less expensive.
  • Wired LAN needs physical access like connecting the wires to the switches or routers.
  • In LAN devices are connected locally with Ethernet cable.
  • It may or may not vary with external factors like environment and quality of cables.

Example : Computers connected in a college or any organization.

WLAN

  • WLAN stands for Wireless Local Area NetworkWLAN connections are completely wireless.
  • WLAN network is a collection of computers or other such devices in a particular location that are connected together wirelessly by communication elements or network elements.
  • WLAN is vulnerable to external attack. So it is less secure.
  • WLAN is popular but more expensive.
  • WLAN works on connecting wires to the switches and routers are neglected.
  • Ethernet cable is not necessary in WLAN.
  • It varies due to external factors. Most of the external factors effect the signal transmission.
  • Example : Laptops, Phones, Tablets are connected to a wireless router or hotspot.
